Hexie Fun with Poppie Cotton
It’s been out for a few weeks now, but I don’t think I’ve talked to you all about Hexie Fun yet! You guys know I like to make things as smooth and beginner-friendly as possible for you, and if you’ve been following the promos for my ruler, you know I’ve been working on making a good transition from beginner shapes like rectangles and half square triangles, to intermediate shapes like diamonds and hexagons!
I wanted to show off just how beautiful the combination of all these shapes could be, so I turned to a very safe bet: Poppie Cotton is back with more super cute designs. As always, they have really nice blender prints and spectacular feature fabric that I can fussy cut! Look at those houses and tell me you don’t want to open up the teeny little door and live inside!
The collection is called Home Sweet Home by Elea Lutz, and once you’re done reading here, you should zoom in on these pictures and look at all the detail they put in. I didn’t even notice the strawberries mixed into the flowers at first glance! The colors also manage to be both vibrant and soft, with those sharp reds and cuddly light blues.
To no one’s surprise, I used my trusty 2021 50wt Aurifil thread for both piecing and quilting, because you literally can never go wrong with it. I went with the 2277 red for the binding and added a few cute labels from Sarah Hearts. Details, you know how much I love the details!
I always try to picture where I see my patterns best used, and though it’s always up to you and what you imagine, I have to think of Hexie Fun as the perfect nursery quilt. Think of it up on a baby girl’s wall, or used to tuck in a little boy. The size is honestly great for a baby blanket or wall hanging, so it’s all about whether you want to display it or use it. Either way, it’s just the kind of thing that I can picture making for a little one.
This quilt pattern is designed to be your very first when moving to intermediate shapes. You’ll use hexagons, half hexagons, diamonds, and triangles (cough, all of which you can do with the ruler, cough). The point is, it’s the perfect way to hone your skills, show off gorgeous fabric like Home Sweet Home, and all in a cute compact package!
Well, that’s all I’ve got for you today. If you like Hexie Fun, there’s another Cut Loose Press pattern, one you’ve probably seen by now, called Candy Lane! And if you get hooked on hexagons, I have Hexie Bunch and Jolly Tree, and more on the way.
Happy Quilting!
